Differences InMortality, Burden, And Cost To Society

1.1.3 Mortality, Burden, and Cost to Society The epidemiologic burden of pre-term births in Canada is significant. Preterm infants have shown substantially higher health expenditures and hospital costs than infants who are born at the recommended gestational age (CIHI, 2006). For neonates born at 29 weeks †¢ Birthweight: ≠¤749 g; 750 g – 999 g; ≠¥1000 g GA and BW were chosen as sub-group categories because they allow for a clear and concise way to separate the patient population. Examining differences in the patient population could show an optimal GA or BW at which a neonate would benefit most from being treated in the Giraffe OmniBed. 5.0 Results 5.1 Search Results Articles included in this review were sourced through Medline,†¦show more content†¦All of the articles included are cohort studies. While three of the studies were full-text articles, the study by Loersch in 2007 was an oral presentation abstract. As information on the topic is limited and this abstract adds to the body of evidence available, the abstract was included in the review. Both reviewers agreed on the included studies. A Prisma diagram of the inclusion process for this review can be seen in Figure 3. The diagram shows that 3181 citations were found using Medline and Embase through OvidSP. Google Scholar produced 12 citations that were believed to possibly have relevant data and 4 citations were found in the references of other studies. These were included because, based on their titles and the information that was cited from them, it was believed that they could provide relevant outcome information. Through EndNotes and visual scanning, 570 duplicate citations were deleted leaving 2627 for title and abstract review. After the preliminary inclusion and exclusion criteria (found in the methods section) were applied to the studies, 2529 articles were excluded, leaving 98 to scan through the full-text. Based on a preliminary scan of the full article, 81 articles were excluded. 17 articles underwent a more thorough review during the data extraction process; 13 articles were excluded, leaving 4 ar ticles with relevant information for this review. 5.1.1 Description of Studies Four articles were included in this review.
